Martin Block passed away 7/22/25 after a 7 month illness with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) a rare and devastating brain disorder. Only about 300 people a year are diagnosed with this disease so one might make the assumption that he was unlucky but on the contrary... Marty had so many people that loved and cared about him. He had close friends that he made back in the second grade that he kept his entire life. He had friends from high school that he remained close with til the end. Marty was a proud Marine and served his country honorably and was at the bombing of the Marine Headquarters in Beirut Lebanon in 1983 when over 200 of his fellow Marines were killed around him. Some surviving brothers from the Beirut Veterans of America where making special trips to visit with him before the end. Marty was a police officer in Cleveland Hts for 35 years were he was known and loved by the community. Father of two wonderful people Hannah and Matthew and two beautiful grandchildren. Marty had the love of his girlfriend Jen and the generous caring support of his ex wife and life long friend Joanne, who both along with others, including members of the Evans family, provided care and support for Marty 24/7 for the last 7 months of his life. Marty had so many visitors they had to be scheduled in turn to see him. So many calls, emails and inquiries they had to be handled and routed by others. As devastating of a loss that it is to have Marty taken from us at 62 years of age by the rare, cruel and deteriorating disease of CJD it will never overshadow the love and support that he received from so many people and that makes Marty one of the luckiest people I have ever known. Caring and compassionate, loving and charming, tough and fair and so so funny. He will be missed forever and never forgotten by myself and many others. Love you brother.
