Mr. Matthew J. “Matt” Lacey, Jr., 66, of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, passed away on July 28, 2025.

Born March 5, 1959, in Nanticoke, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Matthew J. Lacey and Lillian (Elczyna) Lacey. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Kimberly Rose Lacey, and his brother, Mark Anthony Lacey.

Matt was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran whose life was forever shaped by his service. On October 23, 1983, while deployed in Beirut, Lebanon, Corporal Lacey was asleep in a communications tent when the Marine barracks was bombed—an attack that claimed the lives of 220 Marines, 18 sailors, and three soldiers. Cpl. Lacey survived and immediately joined in the rescue, recovery, and retrieval efforts. For 28 days and nights, he served alongside his fellow Marines in the aftermath of that tragic event. His courage, endurance, and unwavering commitment to his brothers-in-arms stand as a testament to his character. Cpl. Lacey is, was, and will always be remembered as a true American hero.
